Primary Chess Success

Our primary students have enjoyed recent success across several chess competitions.

A Citipointe team consisting of Ryan Liaw, Max Yan, Vincent Wu, Alex Chen and Shi Ke Sem took part in the Queensland Interschool Chess State Finals from the 20 to 21 October and came 5th overall. This is an outstanding result for our young players who competed against 41 other highly rated teams from state and independent schools across Queensland. Jolina Chen competed in the Girls’ Primary State Finals and came within the top 25%.

On Wednesday 24 October, a team of seven strong chess players from Prep to Year 6 participated in the Redeemer Lutheran College Invitational Chess Competition. The A team consisting of Ryan Liaw, Kingston Wang, Shi Ke Sem and Nicholas Zhao won their division. Ryan was undefeated and was awarded 1st place individually in A division and Kingston Wang placed 3rd. Our B team, with Lachlan Wang, Caleb Pang and Lucas Wang played very strongly, with Lachlan winning 8/8 of his games and being awarded 1st place in the B division.

Kingston and Lachlan Wang participated in the Gold Coast Individual Age Championships on Wednesday 31 October and played competitively. Kingston placed 10th out of 116 players in his age group, and Lachlan placed 2nd out of 53 players in his age group.

Sixteen of our Prep to Year 6 students competed in the Brisbane Individual Age Championships on Wednesday 7 November and enjoyed outstanding results. In each of their age divisions, Lachlan Wang won while  Ava Wu came 9th; Terrence Hu won and Lucas Han came 5th; Vincent Wu won; and Max Yan came 2nd while Ryan Liaw placed 4th. Our other participants achieved strong personal results.

Congratulations to all our primary chess players for your commitment and success.
