ASPIRE: Primary Learning Extension at Citipointe

Fostering academic excellence

For nearly two decades, Citipointe has offered the academic extension program, ASPIRE, to prepare tomorrow’s leaders and world changers.

ASPIRE is specifically designed to address the needs of academically capable and like-minded students. It fosters collaboration with peers and encourages a spirit of inquiry and experimentation.

ASPIRE delivers the Australian Curriculum in a compacted manner and at a faster pace. This ensures that the core subjects of English, History, Geography, Science, and Technology are taught and assessed rigorously.

Academic enrichment

Additionally, students have the opportunity to extend their learning in subject discipline areas. Here are three ways ASPIRE caters to the diverse needs of our students:

1. Enrich: ASPIRE enriches the learning experience by offering competitions and cocurricular activities open to all students with some age restrictions. These activities broaden students’ horizons and foster a love for learning beyond the classroom.

2. Extend: Through our extension programs, students have access to new and more challenging concepts or content. This allows them to delve deeper into subjects of interest and push the boundaries of their knowledge and understanding.

3. Accelerate: ASPIRE facilitates accelerated progress, allowing students to advance at their natural pace. We tailor the curriculum to their individual needs, so we challenge each student appropriately and give them opportunity to reach their full potential.

Selection for ASPIRE is based on both quantitative and qualitative data. This ensures a holistic evaluation of each student’s capabilities and potential. These quantitative measures include internal school academic results and external assessments and competitions. Qualitative data includes feedback from parents and teachers. This provides insights into students’ communication and thinking skills, level of responsibility, commitment to learning, curiosity, and ability to persevere.

In addition to academic enrichment, ASPIRE also focuses on personal development. Students learn about discovery of self and their world in Year 4. In Year 5, they learn ‘16 Habits of the Mind’. in Year 6, they engage in collaborative projects like the ‘Amazing Race around the World’. Through the honing of their academic and personal skills in ASPIRE, students have a solid foundation. They are well equipped for the challenges offered through the Extension and Honours programs in Citipointe’s Secondary school.
