Congratulations Carly Bettinson Class of 2015

Our very own Carly Bettinson, Class of 2015, is starring as Dorothy in the THE WIZARD OF OZ – ARENA SPECTACULAR and she has shared a bit of her story below:

“When I graduated from Citipointe in 2015 I felt so conflicted because I had discovered my love for performance, but I truthfully didn’t believe I could make it into a career. So I settled for a degree I thought would provide stability but still be interesting and began studying a Bachelor of Music in the hope to become a music teacher. For 2 years I studied, deferred, worked full time in a bridal dress store. It was around this time in my second year out of school when I got a job working as an usher at QPAC. I became aware of a line of work I had never thought about before – musical theatre! I plucked up the courage to audition for the Brisbane Academy of Musical Theatre and it instantly felt like I had found home – I was so relieved to finally enjoy what I was doing!! I left uni and dedicated all my energy into learning as much as I could from my trainers and peers. I studied my Cert IV in Musical Theatre and auditioned for the Wizard of Oz Arena Spectacular during my training as a learning experience! I was so fortunate to be offered the leading role of Dorothy Gale and to make my professional theatre debut in Newcastle this April 2019. Getting to skip down the yellow brick road with some of Australia’s brightest musical theatre stars along with our mass ensemble of over 500 young performers is an absolute dream come true and I honestly still can’t believe it! I’m not sure what will be next for me, but I consider myself the luckiest person ever to get to do what I love.”

This all-new arena presentation of THE WIZARD OF OZ brings one of the most beloved fantasy tales of all time to life like you’ve never seen it before, featuring over 500 performers on stage. THE WIZARD OF OZ – ARENA SPECTACULAR opened at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in April 2019, and heads to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in July 2019, Adelaide Entertainment Centre in October 2019 and Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney in January 2020.
