Congratulations to our Mooting team in the National High School Mooting Competition
Congratulations to our fabulous Mooting team made up of Antiga Jones (Year 12), Julia Richardson (Year 11) and Sarah Garwell (Year 11) who were runners-up in the 2018 National High School Mooting Competition hosted by Bond University’s Faculty of Law.
This year, there were 100 schools that participated in the Preliminary Round of the competition from every state and territory. After completion of the Preliminary Round, the 14 best national finalist teams were selected based on scoring and invited to return to Bond University on Friday, 1 June and Saturday, 2 June 2018 for the Final Rounds.
The National Grand Final teams included Citipointe Christian College (Brisbane) (acting as Respondent) and The Scots College (Sydney) (as Appellant) with The Scots College declared the winner.
Antiga Jones was awarded Runner Up Best Oralist. The judges commented afterwards that it was the way she answered the questions that distinguished her from other oralists. Antiga was able to banter with the judges and make them and the audience laugh. In addition to this award, both Antiga and Julia received Individual Oralist Awards during the Preliminary Round of the competition.
A big thank you to everyone who supported the students during this time. A special thank you to Ps. Brian Mulheran (Principal), Mrs Helen Moore (Head of Secondary), Mrs Vicki Turner (Head of Business), Mrs Heather Kenyon, Mrs Lupita Calero, Micah Beaumont (2012 Alumni) and the parents of the students involved.
We hope to see more students joining the College’s mooting team in 2019. For more information, please contact the mooting teachers.
