Q&A with Cleo B, Arts Captain

How are you involved in the Arts at Citipointe? I am currently the Arts Captain here at Citipointe which has been such an amazing experience. I also do Dance Company, Bella Voce, Elements and NOVA. Now I am playing Juliet in NOVA’s production of Romeo and Juliet but I have also been a part of The Little Mermaid, Godspell and Matilda.

What do you find most enjoyable? I personally really enjoy NOVA as I have such amazing teachers and I get to experience it with my best friends.

What are you working towards now? I am looking to get into QAEMT for a university position and continue three more years at QPAC. After that I am looking to do musicals professionally. I am also exploring other realms of music and am currently writing songs set to come out hopefully next year in March.

What are your hopes for the future? I hope that one day I will be performing in QPAC at the Lyric Theatre and living out the dreams that I have had since I was four years old.

Music Examination Achievements

Several students from Citipointe, including Eilidh B, Alex Z, Isaac K, and Katrina W, have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication in their musical examinations. Notably, Katrina W attained a high distinction Katrina W Year 11 says that getting ready for the Australian Music Examinations Board exams has made her better at managing her time, allowing her to accommodate more activities in her schedule. She plays in several Citipointe ensembles. Katrina finds joy in playing the clarinet and is focused on enhancing her technical skills so she can tackle more challenging pieces for her diploma. She says: “I feel blessed to have all the opportunities I currently have, and whatever happens in the future, I hope I will be able to continue playing music.”

Q&A with Eilidh B, Year 12

What have you learned through your examinations? Examinations have helped me to develop confidence in my playing and technical skills which have shaped the performer that I am today. The repertoire I learn is also helpful for music class performances.

What motivates you to challenge yourself through this avenue? My fellow Arts students, my music teachers and my parents have been key motivators for me during my musical journey. The exams help me to work towards something during my lessons and practice times. They challenge me to try new techniques and pieces.

How are you involved in the Arts at Citipointe? I have been part of the Academy of the Arts at Citipointe since coming to the school in 2017. Currently, I am part of the Secondary String Orchestra and Chamber Strings and am Concert Master for both ensembles. During my junior years, I was also part of the choirs and bands and was Strings Captain in Year 6.

What do you find most enjoyable? I really enjoy connecting with other musicians and performing different repertoire with them. I often like to challenge myself by playing with students of various instrument specialisations. This way I learn from their experiences and create wholesome memories. Mentoring younger Strings students is also a highlight of my typical week. As my skills have developed, so has the freedom in what I play and the opportunities that come my way.
